Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy (PRYT), a specific form of yoga therapy founded by Michael Lee in 1986, consists of a sixty to ninety minute one-on-one sessions that combine practitioner-assisted yoga postures with a verbal dialogue process.
Sessions typically start with a beginning centering and gentle movement to help you come into your body and form an intention. Based on this intention as well as other verbal and non-verbal cues, the Phoenix Rising therapist supports you in a series of assisted postures and guided breath work. The Phoenix Rising therapist also uses dialoguing technique, based on the work from psychologist Carl Rogers, where they ask you a question and then repeat back and validate what you express.
Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy works on the belief that whatever happens in the present moment, either emotionally, physically, spiritually or intellectually, provides greater awareness and connections to the bigger picture in the your life. The inner wisdom from the session becomes the key to change and richness in work, family, leisure and relationships.
Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy sessions are client-centered, open-ended and non-directive. This means the session helps you to find out what is happening in your body and life in order to initiate life changes rather than making a diagnosis and offering a treatment. In other words, the Phoenix Rising therapist does not try to “fix” you, but rather provides the means for you to connect with your body and inner wisdom for healing and personal growth.
Given the personal and unique experience of each session, the benefits from Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy can vary with each individual. Some clients attend sessions to find clarity for achieving a healthier and balance in their personal and work life. Others find that sessions provide healing path for chronic pain, substance abuse recovery or healing from path trauma or abuse. Some clients also use sessions in concert with traditional healing treatments including chiropractic adjustments, physical therapy and psychotherapy treatments. The vast majority of clients state that Phoenix Rising Yoga sessions gives them an unexpected “Ah-Ha!” moment that nurtures growth and positive change in their life.
